A Guide to Omni

Select Journal Search in the Omni banner.

This search includes journals, magazines, newspapers and other serial publications (e.g., annual reports) available at McMaster Libraries (physical & online) and Other Omni Libraries (physical).

To find a specific publication ...

enter the title or ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) in the search box and select the magnifying glass
                        or
use the Journals by category option on the left to browse titles by subject area


Can't find a publication in Journal Search?
Try searching for the title in Omni's Simple Search or Advanced Search.

To find articles within a specific publication or to view the entire publication, click on the title to display its full record.

Example: The Journal of Consumer Research

Search inside

To search for articles within a single, specific publication, go to the Search inside section of the full record. NOTE: This option may not be present for all titles.

Enter an article title or keyword in the Search inside box to find articles within this publication in Omni.

View Online or Get It

To view the entire publication, go to the View Online section of the record to connect to the full text online or  go to the Get It section to find the location of the physical copy. NOTE: Both options may not be present for all titles (as in the adjacent example which is only available electronically).

Before picking a link in the View Online section, take note of the Available from line to ensure the desired date coverage for that publication is available at the site. Similarly, check the Location & Summary holdings in the Get It section of a physical publication for date availability.

NOTE: To search articles from many different publications at once, try a Simple Search or Advanced Search in Omni (first two search scopes), use a relevant database and/or review our research guides for resource recommendations.
