A guide to Omni, an academic search tool that gives you access to information resources from McMaster and other participating Ontario university libraries.

Omni Overview / Layout

  1. Omni Logo - link back to Library home page
  2. Menu Items / ... More Options - includes New Search (i.e. Simple Search), Journal Search, Browse, Databases, Interlibrary Loan (i.e., Omni blank request form), Omni Help / ... Newspapers, Research Guides, Citation Finder, Interlibrary Loan (UL & HSL), Purchase Request, Report an Accessibility Issue, and Featured Collections
  3. Search History, My Favourites, Sign in - to Omni/My Library Account, Menu – includes Display language, My Library Account, My Favourites, Search History
  4. New / Simple / Basic Search Box - keywords anywhere
  5. Search Scopes (5 options) - default is McMaster + Other Omni Libraries
  6. Advanced Search - supports field searching by author, title, subject, call number, and more.
  7. Sign in for complete results and to request items – request items for hold, scanning (single article or chapter), interlibrary loan, and more
  8. Modify your Results – expand, sort, filter your search results
  9. Select – several records at once, Number of results, Personalize, Pin - add to My Favourites
  10. Brief Results/Records - click in record (e.g., title) to display full record and details
