A guide to Omni, an academic search tool that gives you access to information resources from McMaster and other participating Ontario university libraries.

Omni overview / layout

  1. Omni Logo - link back to Library home page
  2. Menu Items / ... More Options - includes New Search, Journal Search, Browse, Databases, Interlibrary Loan (i.e., Omni blank request form), Omni Help / ... Newspapers, Research Guides, Citation Finder, Interlibrary Loan (UL & HSL), Purchase Request, Report an Accessibility Issue, and Featured Collections
  3. Search History, My Favourites, Sign in - to Omni/My Library Account, Menu – includes Display language, My Library Account, My Favourites, Search History
  4. New / Simple / Basic Search Box - keywords anywhere
  5. Search Scopes (5 options) - default is McMaster + Other Omni Libraries
  6. Advanced Search - supports field searching by author, title, subject, call number, and more.
  7. Sign in for complete results and to request items request items for hold, scanning (single article or chapter), interlibrary loan, and more
  8. Modify your Results – expand, sort, filter your search results
  9. Select – up to 50 records at once, Number of results, Personalize, Pin - add to My Favourites
  10. Brief Results/Records - click in record (e.g., title) to display full record and details
