Create a Data Management Plan (DMP)
Data Management Plans (DMPs) outline for how you will collect, organize, store, protect, and share your research data. For more information on DMPs, see the RDM Services' Data Management Planning webpage.
DMPs are a requirement for some grant applications, including the Tri-Agencies: Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), as well as funding bodies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation, Horizon Europe, and more.
DMP Assistant is a free online tool for drafting your DMP that aligns with Tri-agency expectations. McMaster templates and guidance is available within the platform. You can also submit through the system for your DMP to be reviewed by Research Data Management Services. Build it yourself or with the whole research team using the “Comments” feature.
McMaster’s DMP Database contains over 400 different example Data Management Plans shared by researchers which you can use as a basis for your own plan.
