Climate Action-Themed Art for Display at McMaster University Libraries

Climate Action-Themed Art for Display at McMaster University Libraries: Call for Submissions

A person with long light brown curly hair wearing a blue dress sits on a stool while painting a plant on a canvas. Text reads: Call for McMaster artists. Climate action edition. Logo featured for McMaster University Libraries. In celebration of Climate Action Week, McMaster University Libraries invite members of the McMaster community to submit their environmental and climate action-themed art for display. From November 2-8, 2024, selected works will be showcased across our library spaces, providing a visual narrative to inspire awareness and action on climate change.

This is an exciting opportunity for artists to engage with a critical global issue and have their work seen by thousands of library visitors. Whether you're a student, faculty member, or staff, we encourage you to contribute your creative expression on the themes of environmental sustainability, climate justice and action, and ecological preservation.

Left Behind by Vladimir Brundula-Ilija

This photo was taken at a park in St Catharines, ON where workers cut down a number of trees. After their work was completed for the day, one of their orange hard hats was left behind on the stump of the tree they had cut. The image shows this orange hard hat sitting on the cut stump with spring-time growth surrounding the frame.

Titan Arum by Vladimir Brundula-Ilija

This photograph was taken inside the (now old) McMaster Biology Greenhouse. The photo is of the Titan Arum plant on a sunny winter day. The green stem of the Titan Arum is seen stretching out into the roof, projecting out large, bright-green leaves. Many thanks go out to Dr. Susan Dudley and her team for making the greenhouse such a magical place.
