Shopping sustainably means shopping less, and requires a little more forethought. Instead of buying brand new things often, it can be helpful to ask "Do I really NEED this item, or do I just WANT this item?" before buying. If you truly do need something, where possible, try to buy options with minimal packaging, buy in bulk, try to source items that have been sustainably made, and bring your own reuseable containers (i.e. small mesh bags for fruits and veggies, reusable bags for groceries, and jars for bulk foods like nuts and seeds). The McMaster Libraries Sustainability Committee and Dr. Ingrid Waldron (HOPE Chair in Peace and Health, Global Peace and Social Justice Program, Faculty of Humanities) hosted a screening of "A Matter of Justice: Climate Change in Black Communities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area." A project update and question and answer session followed the screening.
