Social Sciences Guide to Research

Welcome to a Social Sciences Guide to Research. The purpose of this guide is to show you the ways in which the library can help with conducting research during your university career.

The Value of McMaster Library

McMaster University Library aspires to be a catalyst of intellectual activity for the University and its community.

McMaster University Library supports the University's research and teaching mission by advancing knowledge and discovery, inspiring creativity and building community.

We deliver innovative services, welcoming spaces and exemplary collections to accelerate research, enhance learning and improve the user experience.

Land Acknowledgement

McMaster University Library recognizes and acknowledges that it is located on the traditional territories of the Mississauga and Haudenosaunee nations, and within the lands protected by the “Dish with One Spoon” wampum agreement. We give honour and thanks to the Haudenosaunee and Anishanaabenations as the traditional inhabitants of the lands where McMaster stands. To say that is to acknowledge a debt to those who were here before us and to recognize our responsibility, as guests, to respect and honour the intimate relationship Indigenous peoples have to this land.

Privilege and Positionality

This guide was created by librarians and library staff who identify as white or Non-Black Persons of Colour, and who occupy spaces of privilege. We are not immune to the hidden biases of our own privileges and perspectives, even as we strive to perform the work of allies.
