A Guide to Sustainability

Recycle Items at the Libraries

Recycling paper products and containers in blue bins is important, but you can also recycle technology, masks, writing tools, phone cases, batteries, and more at the libraries! See the list and image below to see where you can recycle and compost in McMaster libraries.

  • Solar Eclipse Glasses: Donation boxes in MILLS, THODE and HEALTH SCIENCES libraries (near Service Desks) until April 30, 2024
  • ReCoat - reuse lab coats: Drop-off bin in THODE main entrance lobby (1st floor)
  • Tech or electronics recycling: White e-waste bin in MILLS main entrance lobby (1st floor)
  • Mask recycling: Collection bins for disposable masks in MILLS - main entrance lobby (1st floor), Learning Commons (2nd floor) and THODE main entrance lobby
  • Writing tools recycling such as pens, pencils and highlighters: Clear bins in MILLS (1st, 2nd & 3rd floors), THODE (1st floor) and HEALTH SCIENCES libraries
  • Phone cases recycling: Service Desk at all libraries
  • Battery recycling: Service Desk at all libraries
  • Paper recycling: Blue bins in all libraries, most floors
  • Composting: Green bins in MILLS (1st floor), MILLS Learning Commons (2nd floor) and THODE libraries

If you have a waste item that is not recyclable, consider bringing it to a location that has a TerraCycle box (like Green Venture's Eco House). Terracycle is an eco-friendly company that accepts non-recyclable waste items to reuse or repurpose with their partner organizations.
