How Do I Track Citations?

Tracking Citations

Why track citations?

  • To find out how often a publication is used/cited by other publications.
  • To discover the impact of a particular idea/concept on later research.
  • To expand your research and find more articles/resources on a topic.

Resources you can use to track citations

Web of Science

Web of Science includes the Arts and Humanities Citation Index, the Social Sciences Citation Index, and the Science Citation Index.

Scholars Portal

Several Scholars Portal databases (e.g. PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts, etc.) include "cited by" links for articles published in the last few years.

Google Scholar

Most search results in Google Scholar include "Cited by" links at the end of each search result.
