How Do I Access e-Resources Off-Campus?

What is LibKey for Omni?

LibKey, designed to streamline access to research articles, is now seamlessly integrated into McMaster University Libraries’ search interface, Omni. When viewing search results, LibKey enables one-click access to the full-text PDF or HTML version of an article, making it faster and easier to get what you need.

After performing a search in Omni, you will see three helpful links at the bottom of an article's brief view:

  1. Download PDF: takes you directly to a page where you can read and download a PDF copy of the article.
  2. Read Article: opens the article on the publisher's website in HTML format, if preferred.
  3. View Issue Contents: opens a page powered by Browzine, allowing you to browse the full journal by issue.

Note: You may be prompted to log in with your Mac ID when access library-provided content from off campus.

Troubleshooting LibKey

Like any technology, LibKey isn’t perfect. Because it primarily supports electronic articles, it may not provide direct links to content published before 2005.

If a link isn’t working as expected, here are a few things you can try:

  • Click "Available Online" at the bottom of the brief view, or the article title to open the catalogue record. Then, follow the publisher's link at the bottom of the page to access the article.

  • Retrieve the article citation, search for the journal title in Omni, and access the journal issue using "Available Online" in the catalogue record.

  • If these steps don’t work, use the "Report a Problem" link in the catalogue, or email library@mcmaster.ca—our library staff will be happy to assist you!

Retracted Articles

In the full record view in Omni, LibKey also consolidates detailed retraction information of an article in a single, convenient location.
