An Article Citation is a reference point that will direct a reader to a particular resource.
There are several different citation styles that you may be asked to use, most often APA, Chicago and MLA. These styles are composed of shared citation elements but will vary in the organization of information.
Citation Elements
- Author(s)
- Article Title
- Journal Title
- Volume Number
- Issue Number
- Year of Publication
- Page Numbers
- doi / URL (for articles found online)
Distinguishing Features
At first glance, journal article citations can easily be confused with book chapter citations as both contain two title but a journal article citation will include:
- an article title and a journal title
- a volume number and an issue number for the journal
The citation will not include:
- a publisher or place of publication
