Humans of Mac Library

Meet some of the human beings that work at the McMaster University Libraries.

Meet Ann

Name: Ann Pearce

Where do you work?

My usual place of work is Innis (Business) Library. Innis is currently closed until its new home in the McLean Centre for Collaborative Discovery is ready. My temporary home is Thode (Science & Engineering) Library.

What is your job title/role?

Manager, Library Services (Innis) and Manager, Thode Library & the Thode Makerspace

How long have you worked in the department / the library as a whole / this type of role?

I have worked at McMaster Libraries for 33 years, the majority of my time at Mills Library. I have been in my role as a Manager for 12 years.

What do you like best about your position, department, and/or working in the library?

I love the energy the McMaster students bring to campus and being able to help them with their questions. I also love supervising the student assistants who work for the library. They bring their great ideas, eagerness to learn new things, and knowledge of the what is happening on campus. What I've learned from my student assistants helps me to improve my skills as a supervisor. My temporary role as the Thode & Thode Makerspace Manager has given me new learning opportunities in the area of Science & Engineering. The Makerspace has given me the opportunity to develop new skills in the world of 3D printers, laser cutters, and turning ideas into reality.

What are 5 things you have on your Work from Home desk or in your home office space?

The 5 things I have on my home desk (i.e dining room table); my coffee mug, snacks, piles of paper, meeting notebooks, and my cell phone.
