Data Visualization is a broad term for things that uses graphical or pictorial representations of data for exploration, and communication. It is the graphic representation of information and data, by using charts, graphs, maps etc. There are two general umbrellas for types of visualizations: exploration and communication. 

Located on the first floor of Mills Library, GIS Services provides: Access to GIS software; Administration of ArcGIS licenses; Help finding, accessing, and analyzing geospatial data; Assistance using GIS tools and software; and Instruction and workshops on GIS and geospatial data.

Have a story to tell? Start a podcast. Consistently growing in popularity, podcasting is a unique way to connect with an audience of engaged listeners. Recording equipment and editing software is now more readily accessible than ever so it has never been easier to self-produce a podcast from almost anywhere. This course is will take you through each step of the process. From planning to acquiring the right equipment to recording your podcast and uploading episodes and sharing them with the world. Instructor Danny Osment has a long and successful history producing podcasts. Here he shares tips on things like choosing a title, duration, recording and building an audience and followers.

You can still create amazing media with equipment and resources available at home. Although it is difficult to replicate Lyons New Media Centre’s media production studio and audio recording booth, there are some things you can do to produce great media from the comfort of your own living room. This guide will provide tips, instructions, and resources on how to create audio, video and design work at home. With common devices such as cell phones, curtains and a table lamp, making media at home has never been so easy!

Researching in higher education can seem overwhelming, especially as you now have access to so much more information. There is more information, more ways to get to it, and many more types of resources for you to use for your essays, reports, assignments, etc. The Research Process requires you to critically think about your research need, to critically evaluate your sources of information, and to understand and use information appropriately. It takes time, and repetition, but with the right approach and knowledge about researching you can quickly begin to enhance your research skills.
